“Spirit Fridays” will begin on Jan. 13, 2017.
Instead of the green polo and khakis uniform, students are allowed to wear any Steinmetz shirt, which could include sports, year group, clubs, OneGoal or ASM and jeans.
Many students said they were happy to have some relief. Others, like sophomore Joseph Torres, asked, “Why not everyday?”
“For students, the goal was to get rid of the uniforms for good, but what we got instead was one ‘spirit day,’” sophomore Jose Sanchez said. “Wait, let me rephrase that for our freshmen: That’s last year’s uniform.”

“Blank Spaces, a FAFSA Parody” features senior Patricia Saavedra.
The lyrics were written by teacher Rachel Rezny and counselor Yaritza DeJesus, and sung by teacher Ivelisse Cotto. The video was directed and edited by data and media specialist Claudio Mendrano. Senior Aleida Cajigas did the hair and make-up.
“Blank Spaces in our song refers to the FAFSA website where students fill in their information,” Mr. Mendrano said.
