National Honor Society serves community

By Rikeya Hargrove

National Honor Society (NHS) sponsored a coat drive in November and December. Students who helped donate the dozens of coats given  to Su Casa Charity received service learning hours.

NHS was established to recognize outstanding high school students. The Steinmetz chapter, sponsored by teacher Elizabeth Perez, helps around school and volunteers outside of school.

“NHS helps many organizations by doing nonprofit work,” junior Klaudia Batko said.

In addition to the coat drive, students are planning other new service ideas, such as going to a soup kitchen.

NHS members elected officers on Oct. 2, 2016:

President: Marisol Bernardino

Vice President: Ashley Komperda

Secretary: Zaneta Marcinik

Service learning: Adriana Cortes
